  Gondwana Namib Park
Cracked clods of clay, baked by the
sun, testify to the fact that this depression was a lake in the distant past. The dry pan in the sand sea of the Namib Desert, enclosed by the highest dunes on earth, is famous Sossusvlei. Go and see it yourself! Our park is your point of departure.

But Gondwana Namib Park also waits to be explored: this is where the fossilised dunes of the proto-morphic Namib meet the active sand dunes of the young Namib. A sea of sand spreads out in the west, while vast plains extend to the far horizon in the east. Watch solitary Gemsbok, Springbok and Ostrich move across the plain; puzzle over what causes the mysterious Fairy Circles (bald patches in the grassy plains); or have a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.

Please note: Activities can only be booked on site, subject to availability. Prices may vary.

Dune Drive (about 3 hours)
Discover the fossilised dunes, the red dunes above the sandstone
plateau and the many other wonders of the Namib Desert on this drive
around Gondwana Namib Park.

Excursions further afield
Sesriem Canyon (60 km away) is a very narrow gorge, about 30 m deep, which offers shady spots even at midday. Located off the road to Sossusvlei (60 km from the gate to Namib Naukluft Park at Sesriem), the canyon is well worth the short detour en route to or from the vlei.

The Naukluft Mountains dominate the scenery to the east (about an hour’s drive). Its valleys, ravines and plateaus make it a hiker’s paradise.
